Afrofuturxs [Afroversiva]

[English Version]

Afroversiva, is a collective of poets serving as a contestatory voice towards the social demands of the black population of Puerto Rico and Afro-Caribbean. This artistic collaboration formed when the hashtag #BlackLivesMatter surfaced to join the resistance movements fighting against the invisibility, prejudice and racism that also impacts the Afro-Puerto Rican population. The group uses poetry, music and words as their weapon to promote healing and justice for the Afro-descendents on the islands.

The group is comprised of artists’ Welmo Romero Joseph, Gloriann Sacha Antonetty Lebrón, Siloé Andino and Ana Castillo Muñoz.

Listen more from Afroversiva in Afro-Futurxs, a Defend Puerto Rico short, that introduces you to scholars, artists and entrepreneurs that have been, and continue to, explore what it means to be afro-latinx and how they strive to have their work inspire a confrontation of the political and social issues that threaten to tarnish and silence their histories.

Join us for a full screening of Afro-Futurxs, tomorrow February 28th from 12-2 at Latte que Latte in Hato Rey, Puerto Rico.
